Our class das been starting to look at graphing as a way of showing different ways of showing 'How Many'. Today we studied Smarties(TM). First we estimated how many there were in the packet. Then we estimated what the different colours might have been and then we estimated how many of each colour we might have in our packet. We then opened the packets and wrote down the exact colours and numbers of each colour we had in our packet. We then drew a Column Graph to show the different colours and how many of each we had.

Making a graph is such a great way of organising, recording and displaying information! Doesn't the use of colour make it so easy to see the numbers of different coloured smarties in the pack? My favourite Smartie colour is purple (just like my football team) so I am sad that there weren't more purple smarties in the packet!
ReplyDeleteCounting and estimating would be so much more fun when you get to do it with smarties! Great graphs yr 3's.
ReplyDeleteI think orange smarties are the best because they taste orangey.
Great to see your work guys. I like seeing what you are up to. After you finished estimating did you eat your smarties? and did you estimate the right amt in your packet - I find it quite hard estimating!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jamie,It looks like your class are having lot's of fun finding new way's to do maths.
ReplyDeleteI also like orange ones.Grandma
