Maths Games

Our teacher made up some new games for us to play to help us practise our counting.  It was called 'Cat and Mouse'.  One player started in the bottom corner and was the cat and the other player started at the top and was the mouse.  Each player rolled the dice and moved their playing piece with the cat trying to catch the mouse and the mouse trying to run away from the cat.  The cat won mostly.

Working Hard Again In Term 4

What's My Question

Our literacy rotations keep us interested in our learning.  Here we are playing word games.  They are Compound Word Search, Memory and What's My Question.  Compound Word Search has us looking to join 2 words together to make a new word, like to and night make tonight.  In memory we are trying to match 2 words together, but we have to remember where they are.  In What's My Question, there are answers written on the cards and we have to think of what the question might have been.  For example, the question to I have 5 brothers would be How many brothers do you have?

We have iPods!!!

All the other classes in the school are very jealous of us because we have iPods.  Our teacher collected them on the holidays for us to play maths and literacy activities on in class.  How cool is that!!

Making sausages Video

Here is a little video showing how we helped make the sausages.

Making Sausages

This term we have been travelling around the world and studying the food that is eaten in different countries.  We have had damper from Australia, fried rice from Malaysia, korma from India, BBQ from South Africa.  Today we got to make sausages.  First we started by mincing the meat and then we helped pipe the mince into sausage skin.  Tomorrow we are going to cook them and see if they are any good.

Hail Mary

We learned the meaning behind the prayer 'Hail Mary'.  We all knew the words but didn't know what it all meant.  Now we know that we are asking Mary to pray for us and to help us to come closer to God.

News

Today some of our class brought in things from home to show the rest of the class.  We sometimes have pets and today Micaela brought in her Crazy Crabs, Bill and Bob.

Jaxon brought in his favourite Simpsons character to show us.

Bailey showed us a trick with his flip book which was cool.

Oskar told us about his Dad's new (old) Charger.

Stand Up and Make Noise Against Poverty

Here are some of the kids from our class who made lots of noise today!!
We all went to the oval today to make lots of noise to let the world know that we want to stop poverty.  Our teacher let us take some things to make noise from the class room and some of us also brought in musical instruments.  A photo of the whole school will be sent to the government to let them know that we want something done to help people who are poor.

Halving Different Objects

Today we were given some string, counters, modelling clay, cotton wool and match sticks and our teacher asked us to make half of each of these things.  The easiest to halve was the string and the most difficult was the cotton wool because we were given a pile of it and we had no way to measure how much we had.

We're Reading New Books!

Our teacher has found some new books for us to read.  They are from the 'Aussie bites' series and are a lot of fun.  Today, in our reading groups and with the help of our parents, we read the first part of our bookThen we had to make a cover page using the title of the book we read and a picture.  All of the work we will do will go behind this cover page.

Rolling Dice

During Maths we had to roll a single dice 30 times and record how many times it landed on each number.  We first ruled up our maths book into 6 columns.  Then we numbered each column 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.  Mr O then asked us to write down which number we thought would be the most rolled.  Then we rolled the dice and made a tally.  We then added up each of our columns and wrote the numbers on the smartboard so we could see which number came up the most.  It was 5!!

Here's What We Did.

Reading Is Fun

Most days of the week, we have reading groups.  We usually read a chapter of our book and then do an activity.  Today we had to predict what might happen in our books and then read the next chapter.  After we read, we found out whether our predictions were right.  We then had to design a new cover for our books.  Here are some of them.

Computers Are Wonderful Things

Our class has had a real tough time over the past few days, because our class computer has not been able to get onto the internet.  However, Mr O has fixed it and we are back to keep you up to date with what's been happening at school.

Counting Cars

Making the Tally

Today we got the chance to do our own tally and graph just like the one we did with Mr O on Monday.  We counted cars going on the main road and we looked to count 4 colours, white, silver, black and red.  The class were in 2 groups with one group counting cars going one way and the other group counting the cars going the other way.  Each of us took our own tally and the cars were going by very quickly, so our tallies were all different.  Back in the class we made a column graph of the results.  We found that there were mostly white cars driving past the school today.

Maths Activity - Graphing Colours

Our class das been starting to look at graphing as a way of showing different ways of showing 'How Many'.  Today we studied Smarties(TM).  First we estimated how many there were in the packet.  Then we estimated what the different colours might have been and then we estimated how many of each colour we might have in our packet.  We then opened the packets and wrote down the exact colours and numbers of each colour we had in our packet.  We then drew a Column Graph to show the different colours and how many of each we had.

The Science of Sound

This afternoon our class investigated the sounds that are natural, man made, used for communication and music.  We looked at lots of different things that made sounds that our classmates had brought from home.  There was a big fishing reel that clicked when you wound the handle, a door bell, a flute, an iPod Touch, a mobile phone, an iPad, a clock and a clock radio, a harmonica, a DSi, a whistle, a timer and some other things.  We found that we use our voices to communicate and that there are lots of different sounds in our daily lives like brids chirping, cars, radios, leaves rustling and many others.  Sound is very important to us and it helps us to learn.

Our First Post

Hi,
Today we learned about chocolate.  We are taking a food safari around the world this term.  So far we have been to Australia (we made damper), Malaysia (we made Nasi Goreng), India (we made Chicken Korma) and Africa (where the cocoa bean is grown).  We learned that Ghana (a country in Africa) produces cocoa and that chocolate is made from cocoa.  We melted chocolate and dipped banana, strawberries, dohnuts and marshmallows into the chocolate to eat at recess.  We tried 2 different chocoltaes, dark and milk.
